Honor Guard Honor Cadet -- SN Martha Westbrook

POLA Honor Cadet -- PO3 Daniel McClure

NLCC Basic Honor Cadet -- Cadet Joseph Antonello

NLCC MAA Honor Cadet -- LC4 Alina Montenegro

It's hard to believe that this week is coming to a close already. Today's activities included range day for the MAA's and a couple of the photojournalism cadets, final tests for Honor Guard and POLA, another day at the FIT kitchen for culinary, and swim qualifications for NLCC Basic. Everyone participated in graduation practice in the morning and had a great time at the beach for the pizza party Friday night! Graduation is Saturday at 1000. See you then!

Thursday Night Update

It was a beautiful day in Melbourne! The training contingent enjoyed many activities. Honor Guard completed their drill routine and spent the day practicing and perfecting it. Photojournalism did a nature shoot and also a model shoot. Make sure to check the photos! POLA did team-building with the caterpillar boards and did more classes and marching. Culinary made a rib dinner for the staff. Basic Orientation cadets worked on uniforms, showed off their excellent marching skills, and continued on classes. MAA enjoyed a visit from the Crime Investigation team of the Brevard Sheriff's Dept., and discovered that Midshipman Brodeur had been murdered. After a careful investigation of the crime scene by the cadets, MIDN Brodeur miraculously came back to life to work with the cadets on room clearing. A fantastic time was had by all, and an all-nighter is happening for the staff in order to get all cadet evaluations completed.

Wednesday Night Update

Another busy day was had by the training contingent. POLA continued classes on how to staff a boot camp. They had an outstanding leadership presentation by WO T.J. Delaine, USN retired, who discussed how the core values of honor, courage, and commitment can make you a leader and a person with an exemplary life. Culinary made cookies and spinach/artichoke dip for the staff and worked in the FIT kitchen. Photojournalism split up among the trainings to take photos. MAA spent the entire day at a dojo doing Aikido, a martial art. Honor Guard is making great progress on the routine for graduation. The staff is, as frequently happens at trainings, getting little sleep but having a terrific time working with the cadets. The week goes so quickly! It's hard to believe we only have a couple days left.

Tuesday Night Update

Today was a hot one! Some rain in the late day cooled things off a bit. The MAA cadets worked on their uniforms this morning so that they would be ready for their trip to the court house this afternoon. They had a long talk with a juvenile court judge and watched docket proceedings. Honor Guard worked on practical color guard applications and color guard command. They also began work on their armed drill routine. POLA cadets did impromptu public speaking, a Constitution forum, and a class on staff cadet roles. Basic Orientation cadets continued classes and received a tour of FIT's Link Building which was built in honor of Adm. Waters, the first oceanographer in the U.S. Navy. They saw many aquatic devices and aquariums. Culinary took a trip to Vero Beach where they toured the FIT aquaculture research facility and learned about fish farming as a food source. Photojournalism cadets split up among the trainings and accompanied them on their respective activities.

Monday Night Update

We had a fantastic day at Florida Tech! The weather was beautiful and it didn't get really hot till later in the afternoon. Culinary cadets worked at the FIT kitchen and made icing with the chefs. POLA cadets did team building exercises and had a number of valuable classes on power, leadership, and other topics. The Basic Orientation cadets continued working on classes from the syllabus and close order drill. They also had the opportunity, along with the MAA cadets, to work with the DEA. The DEA agents brought their meth-lab truck and all their house breaching and safety equipment. Many of the Basic and MAA cadets got to try on the equipment and all immensely enjoyed the DEA's visit! MAA cadets also worked on strikes using the foam batons and shields. Honor Guard had a guest instructor, WO T.J. Delaine, USN retired, who spoke to them about all aspects of his time on USN honor guard duty. The HG cadets began working on rifle drill and are picking it up very quickly. Photojournalism had classes on editing photos and took many nice shots during their time assigned to the various trainings. See the photos here!

Sunday Night Update

Check-in went very smoothly, and the cadets settled into their beautiful rooms at Florida Tech. After a good dinner, the cadets separated into their trainings and started the week's activities. Honor Guard cadets were issued their rifles. MAA did a great job on the PT test and had a class on integrity. NLCC Basic learned principles of close order drill. Culinary prepared for the week, and Photojournalism was everywhere with their cameras! Please make sure to see the photos daily!
